Did you know there are over 53 million adults with disabilities in the United States? (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). Of these 53 million, only 17.5 percent of individuals with disabilities were employed in 2015 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, June 2016). In addition to supporting the communication needs of individuals with disabilities, our mission is to create and support job opportunities for adults with disabilities. This month, we’d like to share what we are doing at Valley Sheltered Workshop, in Batavia, Illinois. Valley Sheltered Workshop is a non-profit business that employs adults with disabilities to complete a variety of jobs for small businesses. Check out the video below to see how they are helping with the construction and assembly of the Core Vocabulary Exchange System. We’d like to encourage you to support Valley Sheltered Workshop by contacting them if your company has any assembly needs (http://www.valleyshelteredworkshop.org/).
